Who loves you guys? Even with crunch time going on at my day job, I still made it a point to come shoot the Contrive Summer Kickoff at Thursday’s. Then, I stayed up through the night to edit them, even though our internet had gone out. But, I persevered, finished the photos, and tracked down some WiFi to get all of you awesome people the event photos.

Coming out and doing regular event photos is a labor of love, but it is a time consuming one. So, if you want to help keep the lights on over here, it would be great if you would consider clicking the ‘Donate’ button off to the right. Every little bit helps me to keep coming out to support you guys.

GoPro Party Hoop

Turns out that GoPro has put out some free editing software, so I had to take it for a spin. I even had an unedited video I took last weekend just sitting on my desktop to be all fixed up for the web that I shot it on the same night I took the hoop photos. I attached the GoPro to the hoop and let it take some video. I’m pleasantly surprised both that the video turned out as well as it did and that the software did everything it needed. Expect more GoPro action in the coming week.

Party Hoop

Anna Birthday fix to post-3     I guess adulthood is a little like being back in elementary school in that being the one with the best toys goes a long way toward popularity. Turns out that the person who brings the light-up LED hula hoop is only slightly more popular than the guy who takes/ posts photos of the light up hula hoop. That puts me above when I actually was in elementary school and was the kid reading Harry Potter in the corner.

Late Night Lesson

I got a message from my friend Jen just after I got off the late shift asking me if I wanted to come help her with an assignment for her photo class. Always up for a photo shoot, I get dressed and headed out. I was trying to help teach her the basics of long exposure photography when we found a group of glow poi dancers downtown. It was a great chance to demonstrate how shutter dragging works, and I was even able to grab a few shots for myself. Granted, the flash wasn’t as reliable as I hoped, so I wound up with a bunch of shots where it just didn’t go off. I just decided to roll with it in the editing though, and just cranked the contrast up to 11 to get some cool abstract designs.
